Jullie zitten natuurlijk al weken op het puntje van jullie stoel op dit moment te wachten: de onthulling van de fotoshoot die ik samen met blogger-homies Edith en Marianne deed voor Belloya fashion. Nou jongens, ik kan jullie eindelijk blij maken. De foto’s zijn hier! Kom maar door met jullie feedback: is het leuk of is het leuk?
Altijd als er een nieuw curvy of plus size merk op de markt komt, ben ik ontzettend nieuwsgierig. Het is voor mij de allereerste keer dat ik werd gevraagd om ambassadeur te worden. En ik moet zeggen dat ik dat best spannend vind. Zeker als je kijkt naar de manier waarop ik mezelf kleed. Een heel groot deel van wat ik draag, is niet van plus size merken (zoals Belloya). Zou ik hier dan wel mee uit de voeten kunnen? Na wat wikken en niet wegen –fuck de weegschaal- besloot ik de sprong te wagen.
Belloya: body positive brand
Wat mij ontzettend aanspreekt bij Belloya is hun missie: een body positive merk zijn. Bij Belloya willen ze graag dat vrouwen zich zelfverzekerd voelen. En dat is iets wat ik alleen maar kan aanmoedigen! Voor mij is body positivity iets wat vooral in je hoofd zit – happy is not a dress size!- maar je kleding kan hier zeker positief aan bijdragen. Ik bedoel, hoe leuk is het om in de spiegel te kijken en te denken: I look damn good today…
Hoe Mayra Madonna werd…
Eerlijk is eerlijk, ik moest even zoeken naar een manier om mijn eigen, wat stoerdere, stijl te vinden binnen de eerste collectie van Belloya. Maar het is gelukt. Het jurkje met kant heb ik niet alleen als jurkje gedragen maar ook in combinatie met de groene leopard print tuniek. Door het tuniekje als een bloesje op te knopen en daar sneakers bij aan te trekken, werd het een echte ‘Mayra-look’. Bij het zwarte kanten jurkje heb ik het een beetje een punk knipoog gegeven. Hallo Madonna! Like a virgin, oeh! Dressed by Belloya for the very first time… Last but not least, het gemêleerde jurkje met de gele jas. Het jurkje is voor mij iets te netjes, maar ik love de kleur van de jas. Zeker in de herfst en winter kan het leven –en mijn look- wel a pop of colour gebruiken.
Traantjes laten
Het mooiste van deze hele dag was niet de shoot maar de momenten met Edith en Marianne. De mensen die mij al langer kennen, of mijn blog al een tijd volgen, weten dat ik jarenlang heb gelijnd en heb geworsteld met het idee dat ik dunner moest zijn om me gelukkig te voelen. Het is zo bevrijdend om dit nu totaal anders te ervaren. En daarin vinden wij als blogger homies elkaar ook.
Om met de woorden van een van mijn favoriete schrijvers Alex Elle te eindigen: ‘Be you. Love you. All ways. Always.’

It’s been a long time coming… Okay, just a couple of weeks. But I’m finally able to share the Belloya campaign I shot with blogger homies Edith and Marianne. I’d love to hear your feedback: is it cute or is it cute?
Every time a new curvy or plus size brand is being launched I’m super curious about it. This was actually the first time I was asked to be a brand ambassador. Something I find quite exciting. Especially considering the way I dress. A lot of the stuff I wear is not from plus size brand like Belloya. Would I be able to make this work for me? I decided to take a leap of faith…
Body positive brand
What I really appreciate about Belloya is their mission to be a body positive brand. Belloya wants women to feel good about themselves. Something I can only encourage. To me body positivity is a mindset- happy is not a dress size!- but I do believe that the way you dress can add to this in a very positive way. We all like to look into that mirror and think: Damn girl, you look good today!
Madonna vibes
I have to be straight up with you, it took me a minute to make the first Belloya collection work for me. I have a bit of a more urban style. But I made it work! I didn’t just wear the lace dress as a dress but I combined it with the leopard print blouse as well. I actually tight the knot with the blouse and it looked super cute with a pair of my favorite sneakers. The lace dress took me back to the 80’s when I was into Madonna. Like a virgin, oeh! Dressed by Belloya for the very first time (yeah yeah, bad joke, I know…) Last but not least, a structured grey dress combined with a yellow coat. The dress has a bit too much of an neat office vibe for me, but I love the color of the dress! Especially during Fall and Winter I like to give my outfits a pop of color.
Shout out to my girls
The best part of this day wasn’t the shoot but the moments with Edith and Marianne. People who know me personally or who have been following me for a while, know that for years I’ve struggled with the idea that I had to be thinner in order to feel happy. It gives me so much freedom to experience the opposite. This is probably why we connect as blogger homies as much as we do.
